Ancient wisdom

What is the secret to effective communication? There are thousands of learned books on this question, many replete with abstruse theories and intricate process diagrams.

Aristotle, Greek philosopher,
384-322 B.C.

More than 2,000 years ago, the Greek philosopher Aristotle summed up the key to effective communication in three points:

1. truthfulness
the audience must be convinced that the communicator is telling the truth

2. competence
the person communicating must know the subject matter

3. goodwill
the motives behind the message should be positive ones
