Ticino

What is Ticino and where is it located?
Italian-speaking canton in southern Switzerland; 1,086 sq mi (2,813 sq km); wine, tobacco, textiles; abundant hydroelectric power; known for the lake resorts of Locarno and Lugano; population (1998) 300,000. Flying time from the airport near Lugano (Agno) to Basel, Zurich and Geneva is ca. 45 minutes. Train travel from Locarno to Zurich takes approximately three hours.
